Looks like I’m no longer the only one generating Featured Images on the fly, in PHP. (Also: social media images are useless, and wasteful.)

Nope, not ever. (Can’t help but be reminded of the Belgian student who died during that initiation ceremony, either.) Like, ‘magic’? To describe—or justify—doing the unthinkable and ultimately getting away with it? How about plain male piggery?

(Re-read Tom Critchlow’s original post and I think I can now see where you’re both getting at. It _is_ very easy to build a front end for a JSON “API.” And OPML comes with built-in discovery, while XLST—didn’t think I’d ever see that “come back”!—acts as your de facto “web front end.”)

Haha. Can’t help but think: why not (microformatted) HTML? (And then, if you wanted [even more] people to be able to effortlessly track changes, RSS. Or, if simplicity and machine-readability are your top-most requirements, JSON?)

Used to use highlight.php (a port of highlight.js) in combination with PHP’s DomDocument functions to parse WordPress posts’ `post_content`. That would get you halfway there.

that IndieWeb “photo” (and “video”) posts can’t just be “articles,” too. I mean, they can, but you gotta be super careful because reader apps _are_ going to do things to these entries.

(jan.boddez.net/notes/ad53cf4bf)

Note that adactio.com/journal/18162 actually does this, too. And that my h-feed reader displays _all_ of its photos at the bottom of the post rather than in their original positions. Which works only if an article was written with that in mind. (And even though, at least at one point in time, the spec apparently mentions “the content should be interpreted as the photo’s description.”)

@bekopharm Think I just figured out why some of your posts get their videos and photos stripped by X-Ray/Aperture. 😬 (And why it doesn’t [yet] distinguish different videos when fallback sources are being used: indieweb.org/video, under “How to Markup.” Guess a _video post_—think Instagram or maybe Twitter—isn’t _expected_ to at the same time be an _article_.)

Show thread

This may in fact be a good reminder that (1) we shouldn’t just stuff our content with microformats; (2) IndieWeb adapters, though technically apt and few in number, are in fact themselves confused; (3) like Mastodon and Pixelfed, “IndieWeb standards” do have their roots in existing social media applications, and, much like ActivityPub implementations, not all IndieWeb software is necessarily interoperable.

Long story short: do not use `u-photo` on random photos inside a longer entry! Or `u-video`. And forget what I posted before. Feature, not bug (I mean, literally).

Show thread

For a pure photo post (cf. Instagram), okay. Just display the collected photos below whatever text there is, if any. All other cases (articles with several `u-photo`s in them), not so much. That is, until I started digging (a little): github.com/microformats/h-entr

Note to self: I _think_ X-Ray strips photos and videos from post content when they have a `u-photo` or `u-video` class, which can be rather confusing. Back to following some folks’ RSS feeds, then. Although I’d love to just see this change.

Does anyone have stickers or even a T-shirt that states "I ❤️ CSS Flexbox & Grid" because I would be throwing my money at the screen to buy them. After all these years or tweaking website layouts, I finally feel under real control thanks to these. #css-appreciation-day #css #thanks

Like a sequencer, like those found inside a DAW? Where you draw notes on a “piano roll” and play them back to hear the sampled, or synthesized, sounds?
